Ponsonby is a vibrant, safe, historic area of Auckland City, a late 19th Century neighbourhood, full of wisteria and wooden villas. A few minutes walk from The Great Ponsonby Bed and Breakfast you'll find some of Auckland's best restaurants with a range of dining options including established French, Italian, Jewish, Indian, Japanese, Malaysian, Turkish, Pacific Rim Fusion, Organic and Vegetarian, as well as Auckland's best fish restaurant. There is everything from haute cuisine to peasant tucker. Plenty of choice of bars, bistros and live music.
Ponsonby Road, the main road is lined with cafes, bars, and boutiques. Brightly glazed ceramics are crafted and fired in and around the Ponsonby area and can be brought at the studios where they are made.
Ponsonby is 10 minutes from the waterfront and a stones throw away from the Auckland Zoo, Museum, Galleries, Eden Park and the Viaduct Basin, home to the Americas Cup. Our guests enjoy visiting the Tongan women who sell tapa cloth (wall hangings made from beaten bark) on Saturday morning or attending the Samoan Church on Ponsonby Road. Two local parks have quirky sculptures in them.
The Great Ponsonby Bed & Breakfast, a Small Hotel so close to everything in Auckland:
